Last Updated: October 2026 (GlassCue 2.0)

The Short Version

  • Your scripts stay on your Mac. GlassCue never uploads them.
  • GlassCue sends crash reports and anonymous usage statistics to Google Firebase so we can fix bugs and see which features are used.
  • There’s no account, no advertising, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
  • Follow Voice listens on your Mac only; audio is never recorded or sent anywhere.
  • The phone remote is off until you turn it on, and it works only on your local network.

What Stays on Your Mac

Data Where it lives
Your scripts and their settings The app’s sandboxed storage on your Mac
App preferences (fonts, colors, speed) The app’s sandboxed storage on your Mac
Files you open Read from disk and copied into your library, never uploaded
Microphone audio (Follow Voice) Processed on your Mac as you speak, never stored or sent

GlassCue is a sandboxed Mac app. It can read only the files you choose to open, drop on its window, or paste.

What GlassCue Sends

GlassCue 2.0 uses two Google Firebase services. Neither ever receives your script text, file names, or audio.

Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If GlassCue crashes, a report is sent the next time you open it. A report contains the technical details of the crash (which code was running), your Mac model, macOS version, GlassCue version, language, and a random identifier for this installation of the app.

Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

GlassCue sends basic, anonymous usage events, such as when the app is opened, how long it’s used, and app updates, along with your Mac model, macOS version, language, approximate region (country level, derived from your IP address), and a random identifier for this installation. GlassCue uses the version of Firebase Analytics without advertising identifier support, so no advertising ID is collected.

This information isn’t linked to your name, email, or Apple Account, and we don’t use it for advertising or sell it.

Google processes this data on our behalf under the Firebase terms and privacy information and keeps it according to Firebase’s retention policies.

Permissions GlassCue May Ask For

Permission When Why
Microphone and Speech Recognition The first time you play in Follow Voice mode To scroll along as you read aloud. Recognition runs on your Mac.
Local Network When you turn on the phone remote To serve the remote control page to your phone on the same network.

You can change these at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

The Phone Remote

When you turn on Phone Remote, GlassCue serves a small control page on your local network. Every request needs a six-digit PIN or the private key in the QR code address, both of which change each time the remote starts. The page shows the script’s title, current section, and timing, never the script text, and nothing is sent over the internet.

Screen Recording Privacy

With Hidden from Screen Capture on, GlassCue’s windows are left out of screen recordings, screenshots, and screen sharing, so your script can’t be captured and shared by accident.

Children

GlassCue isn’t directed at children and doesn’t knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to This Policy

If GlassCue’s data practices change, we’ll update this page and its “Last Updated” date before the change ships.
